We've collected some iinspiration and ideas for living room decor, whatever your style.
The living room is the hub of the home, the place you go to put your feet up and relax at the end of the day.
You need the décor to be just right for you, so take a look at some of our decorating ideas for living rooms to pick up a little inspiration.
Nature and nurture
Bring the simple beauty of the natural world into your living room with a colour palette encompassing creams, beiges and all shades of green. Hang wooden signs as wall decorations – or attach photographs to them – and add found objects and wooden candle holders. Create an indoor garden feel with large outdoor planters and a rustic oak coffee table.
Choose a fabric sofa suite in natural and earthy tones, accessorised with fresh leaf green cushions, and add an armchair in a subtle shade of green. Wood burning stoves are the greener way to warm your living room and make an attractive focal point.
The bold and the beautiful
Forget country cottage or chintz – contemporary florals are stylish and bold. The vibrant designs of modern floral patterns are perfect for a feature wall or individual piece of statement furniture, or go for an upmarket look with subtle shades such as beige with white or cream. Florals and stripes can complement each other if you keep to a similar colour scheme; alternatively stick to the same design but vary the colours.
Create a stylish feature wall using paint or wallpaper. Either choose white paint and one bold coloured wall or coloured walls with one wall that’s papered. The best walls have no doors or windows and ideally already have a focal point (such as a fire place)
Whiter than white
OK, so it’s probably not the best look if you have a large family, but fresh white décor brings an invigorating feel of light and space into your living area. The surprising thing about white is just how many shades of it there are, from cotton and antique lace to ivory and sail white.
Texture is a key design trend this year so if you go for an all-white or mostly white décor, use texture to create contrasts, for example, set the sleek white sheen of a leather sofa against a textured rug or wallpaper. Lace, hessian or faux fur also offers varied textures, coupled with stone ornaments and bare brick walls painted white.
Create a central feature to break up the expanse of white, such as an industrial metal feature wall paired with chrome lighting, or add a splash of colour with a bold coffee table or scatter cushion. If you have an open plan living space think about buying colourful leather dining chairs to go around your dining table.
A Passage to India
Bring the warmth and colour of India into your living space with polished wood, colourful fabrics and gleaming brass. The beautiful natural grain of a handcrafted sheesham wood sideboard and matching nest of coffee tables suit this style perfectly, as will all of our Indian furniture range. Wall mount a wooden box of Indian spices and take inspiration from the warm colours of ginger, paprika and turmeric. Add colour with pure silk sari fabric, which can be used for window treatments or as wall hangings.
The rich tones of an aniline leather sofa with a patina enhanced by natural oils are the best match for this look. Give yourself space to lie out with a comfy 4 seater leather sofa or a corner sofa suite. With brass a key trend for this year, source a spittoon as a plant holder and accessorise the room with ornaments such as an elegant traditional coffee pot.
Going for Gold
Regal or smart, gold can enhance both traditional and contemporary settings. With gold wallpaper a key trend this year, anyone can have a luxurious living room without breaking (into) the bank. For a clean, modern look, start with a neutral base then dress your room with a beige or cream leather sofa and gold accessories. Gold lampshades and vases will add a warm glow to this living room decorating idea.
Choosing cushions that feature gold alongside contemporary colours such as teal or lime green will update the look and add texture. For a more traditional living room décor, source antique gold frames and ornate lamps with gold fringing – add a gold and crystal chandelier for an opulent shimmer. Rich and sumptuous, antique gold shades will stand out beautifully against dark red walls or paired with a comfortable red leather armchair.
