The green sofa trend

Chic, luxurious and versatile – discover the enduring popularity of green sofas.
Amthal Karim, Head of Design at Furniture And Choice comments:
“The rise of nature-inspired and retro trends has influenced home colour palettes. From earth tones to cosy neutrals, more people are looking for colour palettes that not only make us relax but also brighten up a room. With nature as the inspiration, green sofas allow us to reconnect and relax while also making a statement.
Just like millennial pink, green sofas (velvet to be exact) are an interior trend that millennials have naturally gravitated to. The terms ‘green velvet sofa’, ‘green corner sofa’ and ‘green couch for living room’ have all been trending on Google with high search volumes. Whether it’s a longing for the natural world indoors or as the centrepiece in a maximalist living room, green sofas have proven to be both timeless and versatile. Its adaptability is thanks to the many green tones to choose from – olive, sage green, mint or forest are what come to mind when you think of a green sofa.
Pairing green with velvet feels natural, thanks to its textured and tactile fabric. The terms ‘velvet sofa’ and ‘green velvet sofa’ currently have 8,100 and 5,400 searches on Google, respectively. Aside from its natural leanings, green velvet sofas fit right in with the jewel tone trend, giving green tones an element of depth and luxury that’s hard to find with other fabrics. Olive green or forest green are best suited for this trend as velvet’s sheen gives it a jewel look, making it feel luxe yet cosy. It also provides the base for accessorising, where you can bring in patterned cushions or throws.
Green velvet sofas have that ‘main character energy’, making it a shoo-in for a modern boho style. Colour is a key factor in modern boho style, so choosing the right green tone sets the foundation of your living room – a deep forest green anchors the room, while a light green tone adds playful elements and makes the space feel more lighthearted. Texture is a key element of this style with wood, rattan and a cosy rug creating a relaxed feel.
Olive green is a top pick for retro interiors as it sets the groovy vibe of the room. Together with velvet upholstery, it makes it easy to incorporate other retro accents, such as dark wood furniture, geometric patterns, and stylish curves into the mix. Layering is an important element in retro style with dark wood furniture, geometric patterns and stylish curved accents decorated around the sofa. For retro interiors, it’s a good idea to opt for a light base on the walls, like earthy neutrals and then introduce darker tones through accents like a coffee or an alcove.”
