SS26: Palm Springs Pastels interiors

Make your home feel sweeter with a gelato-inspired colour palette.
Amthal Karim, Head of Design at Furniture And Choice comments:
“Summer holidays often bring back memories of our childhood, making us want to revisit the simpler times. For many of us, it’s the small moments that are preserved in our memories, like enjoying a strawberry gelato by the beach or watching the sunset’s orange glow as a family. Taking inspiration from these moments is one way to update the home and capture that light-hearted summer feeling.
The ice cream or gelato parlour is a fresh source of interior inspiration with a hint of nostalgia. A palette of raspberry pinks, lemon sorbets and pistachio mint uplifts the home and bring their own sense of joy and whimsy. Pastels are always a good idea, especially when it comes to pink. Powder pink is a sophisticated yet playful choice when updating the home and provides that sense of nostalgia. Pink symbolises femininity and innocence and is known for its calming and peaceful nature. Powder pink’s pale, muted hue with a grey undertone is a great choice, as it brings a tranquil vibe while energising the room.
Powder pink’s sense of softness makes it easy to pair with other light-hearted tones. White is a natural top pick, as it complements powder pink and invites the opportunity to layer. Teal provides a chic contrast, as it lies on the opposite ends of the pastel colour wheel from powder pink. Bringing in pastel yellow adds to the summery vibe, making the space feel warm and inviting.
Introducing pink against a contemporary backdrop creates a soft modern look. Contemporary interiors, which once seemed more masculine, with a colour palette with grey, black and white tones dominating, have now been softened. Pastels are the easy antidote to this, alongside lots of soft curves and rounded shapes that have slowly replaced the stark, straight lines associated with contemporary and minimalist interiors.
Since we’re on the subject of curves, the furniture silhouettes and accessories should be like a fresh scoop of ice cream – round and satisfying. A curved sofa, a rounded coffee table or a curved lamp are some of the ways you can make contemporary décor feel more relaxed and less rigid. Just like the colour palette, leaning into a sense of playfulness and fun is what makes this look work.”
