Snug interior trends for 2026
We know it’s summer, but it’s not stopping us from enjoying these cosy interior trends.
Amthal Karim, Head of Design at Furniture And Choice comments:

“When we think of summer, we think of the great outdoors. However, as much as the sun’s glow will tempt us, it can’t be denied that once we’re indoors, we’re all craving comfort. The rise of slow living and an emphasis on our wellbeing, coupled with a love of earth tones and natural textures, has paved the way for rich, cosy interiors that make us feel snug and wrapped up in a cocoon.
In the living room, cinema-style sofas are having their moment. Recliner sofas are trending, with the term ‘recliner couch’ hitting 22,000 Google searches and ‘recliner sofas’ with 2,900 in the past year. Maybe because it’s the World Cup right now, but watching TV from the comfort of your own home is a winner when you have a multi-functional sofa. Cinema-style sofas now don’t just recline; some sofas have USB ports and built-in speakers, while looking extremely chic and stylish. We have evolved from the overly large, mechanical recliners of the past, and these sofas are now sleeker, blending into the surroundings and designed for relaxation.
Textured walls are also another key element in capturing that snug feeling. Limewash is a popular option, creating a soothing, natural finish and adding a layered look to the room. Textured wallpaper has been on the radar for the past few years and is now available in a more natural finish, which is perfect for summer. Grasscloth wallpaper, which was all the rage in the 70s, is now finely woven, adding subtle depth to the room with its texture. Upholstered walls are another bold idea if you love velvet; however, it isn’t the most practical idea if you have kids or pets. Opting for semi-high gloss paint finish in a bold colour (think teal, deep green) may be a better solution.
The trend of ceilings as the talking point also ties in perfectly with snug interiors. With homes getting smaller, it only makes sense to look upwards - literally. Painted ceilings have been trending for a while, thanks to the popularity of colour drenching. This has also made way for the rise of colour capping - a spinoff from colour drenching, where you paint the room in varying tones of the same colour. Painting the ceiling a slightly different tone from the walls creates a chic, cocoon effect, and subtle contrast in the room. It’s a good trend to experiment with if you want to play with the perception of height.
Aside from painted ceilings, adding wooden panels to the ceiling is another way to introduce texture to the room. Wooden panels are an evergreen choice, no matter what season and set the scene for a relaxing ambience. The type of wood you choose is the deciding factor in what type of mood you would like to set – oak will make the space feel more light and airy, while darker woods like walnut are a great transitional pick for autumn and winter.”
