AW26: The Monochrome Trend

Autumn is here, and it’s time to wrap up and layer with brown monochrome interiors.
Amthal Karim, Head of Design at Furniture & Choice comments:
“As crisp autumn mornings and earthy foliage beckon, it’s natural to be drawn to a colour palette that’s cosy, grounding, and full of depth. Brown has been the buzzword for the past few seasons, with the term ‘brown colour’ hitting 3,600 searches on Google over the past two years. The current brown trends are no longer minimalist, coordinated beige homes; they're more nuanced, mixing different textures and finishes with a touch of drama.
Brown’s versatility extends to all parts of the home: a classic brown leather Chesterfield in the living room is a timeless option; a dining table with dark mahogany grain or mocha-coloured walls with panelling. It’s a colour that’s so easy to layer because there are so many tones to choose from, whether it’s mocha, camel, latte, tan, chestnut, cinnamon or taupe. Its wide spectrum of tones makes it a shoo-in for monochrome interiors.
Monochrome colour schemes, when done right, highlight a room that showcases a richness in colour, texture and depth. Picking the right colour and layering the room is essential in preventing the room from feeling one-dimensional or just plain boring. Choosing brown for a monochrome colour scheme sets the tone for a warm, cosy and comforting space. It’s the perfect opportunity to contrast light brown tones with dark walnut or mocha.
Even though monochrome interiors mean just one colour, it invites plenty of room for experimentation. Contrasting with different textures provides both visual and tactile interest. A walnut dining table with velvet chairs is both luxurious and comforting, bringing its own warm vibe to the dining room. Mellow mocha or deep caramel walls bring depth and their signature brand of luxe.
Choosing the right accessories is another fun way to experiment with different textures. Clay ceramics, glass vases or a shaggy rug give the space its own unique character. Brown’s versatility makes it an easy pick for mid-century modern, retro or vintage style and allows you to mix and match when accessorising.
Aside from the furnishings, lighting is key to setting the vibe and prevents the space from feeling flat. Soft, warm lighting creates a comforting ambience and lets the room bask in its glow. Having a chandelier in the middle of the room anchors the space, creating a layered look with smaller ambient lights.”
