Mixing & Matching

Mixing materials is a trend that has been influential in furniture and is now filtering through to surface design. The trend focuses around combining a selection of contrasting materials, patterns or textures that are usually used in isolation and bringing them together to create an eclectic look.

Kitchen Decor

Mixing and matching different styles and patterns in interior design creates a sense of depth in a room which prevents it from looking too flat. It also means you’re able to add things to the space as time goes on without anything looking out of place.

You don’t have to go all out when thinking about mixing materials. Sometimes, the simple, subtle touches such as contrasting grout, shapes or colours works just as well. These small changes are great ways to incorporate a theme into a room without having to redecorate.

Another simple way to introduce some contrast into a room is to mix different textures on the same surface. For example, our exclusive Mixara range is ideal for both walls and floors and has been designed with six different finishes – perfect for creating a real style statement in your home.

One of the most popular and accessible trends in walls and flooring is strong linear designs which can be taken to another level with contrasting grouts or by creating different patterns such as the distinctive and highly fashionable herringbone.

Kitchen Trends

The herringbone pattern can be achieved by laying rectangular tiles or wood flooring in a pattern reminiscent of the skeleton of a Herring fish. Try laying brick effect tiles in a Herringbone pattern and use a contrasting grout to really draw attention to the style.

Influenced by recent trends popular in fashion, patchwork and pattern continues to be a key trend in surface design. With many of our tiles featuring everything from bright and bold patterns to subtle and delicate designs, we’re here to help you incorporate some pattern into your home.

Patterned Tiles

Introducing pattern into your home can be daunting, especially if you’re redecorating a whole room. But fear not, a splash of colour or decorative design can really transform a space and create a look that’s unique to your home. Whether you’re planning on creating a statement feature wall or a simple hint of pattern, they key is to choose a style that reflects you and your home, and will also stand the test of time.

There are many ways to weave pattern into interiors to create a distinctive look, with walls and floors being the key areas these styles can work really well. Our Archivo and Henley ranges are very different in feel – one inspired by traditional hand-painted terracotta tiles and the other by classic encaustics of the Victorian era – but both achieve a timeless yet on-trend look.
