It’s the age old question. If you were throwing the ‘dream dinner party’ who would get a place at the table? Would your evening be filled with fun and laughter with Peter Kay and James Corden taking centre stage? Or would you host an intellectual dinner, with Martin Luther King or Albert Einstein being named guest of honour?

Well, we’ve surveyed the nation to find out exactly that. Overall, a good mixture of personalities seems to be important to us, with down-to-earth TV personalities and sports stars monopolising the list.

Female musicians were a firm favourite with respondents, with Diana Ross and Whitney Houston getting notable mentions, however, Adele topped the charts (as usual) and bagged a seat at the dream dinner party.

Elvis donned his crown and took the top spot as the male musician Brits would give an invite to, beating off stiff competition from the likes of John Lennon and Michael Jackson. Of course, Barack Obama and Nelson Mandela were also named as guests of honour, coming in more preferable than Prince Harry and Donald Trump.

When it came to actors, Johnny Depp got a seat at a quarter of the nation’s dinner tables – hopefully he’ll be bringing a dessert from the Chocolate Factory.

Judi Dench also got an invite to the nation’s dream dinner party, as did Ant and Dec (yes, they’re sharing a chair), Holly Willoughby, David Beckham and Jessica Ennis-Hill.

This is what the nation’s dream dinner party looks like:
