We took part in the Big Asthma Bake Sale as a way to contribute towards Asthma UK’s initiative to continue the fight against asthma. But we wanted to up the ante - why stick to classic baked goods when we could bake delicious furniture-themed, sofa-shaped cakes?
Aside from raising £105, we also uncovered some very talented bakers that would fit right at home on the Great British Bake Off. With full stomachs and a successful fundraiser, it was a pretty sweet deal!
Who doesn’t love a bit of fancy dress in aid of charity? We do! In support of Children in Need, the UK team put their best foot forward, in costumes ranging from Spongebob to Negan from The Walking Dead, while the team in Asia played their part too – some in fancy dress, and others sticking to the colour theme of buttercup yellow!
After a fun-filled day of games, a bake and curry sale along with donations, we successfully raised a total of £646.20, all for a good cause.
Delicious food and a fun dress code - count us in! We a all donned our red noses and our best costumes in support of comic relief, and to tackle the problem of poverty in our own small way. It was an international effort, with our team in the UK leading the way with all the enthusiasm of 101 dalmations, while our team in Asia diy-ed it with homemade red noses.
Through a bake and curry sale, a fancy dress competition, sweepstakes and donations, we managed to raise £353, and look forward to topping that (hopefully!) next year.
At Furniture Choice, we love a good Christmas jumper. The spanglier, the better, in fact.
Which is why we love Christmas Jumper Day, when pulling on our favourite, once-a-year sweater means we can help children around the world. for every person participating in the office, there’s a donation of £2 that goes to programs that contribute towards the education, health and protection of children around the world, and the emergency services too.
Tom, Director at Furniture Choice said: ‘I can’t say I’d wear a Christmas jumper by choice, but as there’s one day of the year to really go for it and do good as well - this is it.’
For a feel-good time of year, there can be little better than feeling warm and fuzzy both on the inside and out.
The British Heart Foundation has over 170 furniture and electrical stores across the UK selling sofas, dining sets, beds and more - and some of those have come from Furniture Choice. We’ve been actively donating the dining tables we’ve used in our photoshoots to the bhf, because we want to support a great cause and contribute towards life-saving research.
Tom, Director at Furniture Choice, said: ‘Usually we only sell our furniture ourselves, but when it’s for a good cause - why not? in donating these tables, we hope that in our own small way, we can be a part of supporting healthcare and research in the UK.’
Furniture Choice develops an online recycling tool to help reduce flytipping
When you buy new furniture you often have to dispose of your old ones and unfortunately it’s increasingly common to see old furniture dumped by the roadside. as an active member of the furniture industry we were keen to think of ways we could help, by first understanding what the UK public genuinely think about this, and then by looking at ways we could help to tackle it.
We began by commisioning an independent survey of over 1000 UK residents, this found that the top five reasons for fly tipping in the UK are:
There is nowhere else to take rubbish
Unaware it was illegal
It was the easiest option available
The cost of disposing properly was too high
Because they could get away with it
With free recycling and donation facilities available in most areas, it seemed to us that the biggest problem was the public’s lack of awareness. so we created an online recycling tool to help the public identify their local refuse centres and avoid hefty fines whilst also being kinder to the environment.
Our online recycling tool is accessible from desktop, tablet or smartphone and has been pre-populated with information for over 700 locations for local council tips, charities and services and is continually updated allowing for more and more services to be added.
Tom, Director at Furniture Choice, said: “Informing the public on the safest ways to dispose of unwanted items is the most effective way of combatting the growing problem of illegal fly tipping, which is why we created the recycling tool. local authorities provide excellent recycling facilities so the online tool is designed to highlight this and, in turn, reduce the number of fly-tipping cases.”
